Numerous hacktivist groups have launched retaliatory cyberattacks against French websites as part of the opDurov campaign following the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov by French authorities over alleged gaps in the messaging platform's content moderation and law enforcement cooperation, reports SC Media.
Distributed denial-of-service attacks have been deployed against almost 10 websites, including those of the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products, French newspaper La Voix du Nord, and French agricultural union Confederation Paysanne, as well as the official site for the country's public services information, according to cybersecurity expert Clement Domingo, also known as SaxX.
While Russian hacktivist groups had a major role in the intrusions — with the Russian Cyber Army Team, also known as People's Cyber Army, claiming DDoS attacks against the sites of both ANSM and digital network and energy infrastructure manager Syane, and People's Cyber Army and UserSec collaborating to compromise the sites of both the Administrative Tribunal of Paris and the National Court of France — Malaysian hacktivist group RipperSec admitted targeting French financial website PriceBank as part of the campaign.
