The federal government has rolled out a U.S. Cyber Trust Mark labeling program developed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that aims to ensure the security compliance of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, according to CyberScoop.

This recent launch comes weeks after nearly a dozen companies were designated by the FCC as Cybersecurity Label Administrators, with UL Solutions given the lead administrator role. Despite being primarily focused on consumer IoT products, the government will further expand Cyber Trust Mark to cover small office and home office routers, smart meters, and other enterprise systems.

"We see great potential in the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark program," said Michael Dolan, senior director and head of enterprise privacy and data protection at Best Buy, one of the consumer product vendors supporting the program. "It's a positive step forward for consumers and we are excited about the opportunity to highlight this program for our customers."
