Google was noted by cybersecurity experts to have further strengthened its cloud security know-how with its $32 billion acquisition of Israeli cloud security firm Wiz, which will be integrated into Google Cloud as part of the purchase, SC Media reports.
Google Cloud aims to harness Wiz's expertise and Mandiant's threat detection and response capabilities to establish a robust cloud detection and response system, which could entice more customers, according to Snir Ben Shimol, co-founder and CEO at Zest Security.
In a video interview with SC Media, Bob Ackerman, founder and managing director at AllegisCyber Capital, said Google's acquisition of Wiz puts a lot of pressure on the other cloud providers.
"Each one has its own native security, but Wiz being “best in class” takes it further," Ackerman told Tom Spring, senior editorial director at SC Media. "Now, Google has a competitive edge because it can offer superior security management for [multi-cloud] environments. The bar is raised."
Eric Schwake, director of cybersecurity strategy at Salt Security, added that the consolidation brought upon by Google's Wiz buy is indicative of the growing value of cloud security and multi-cloud systems. "The acquisition has the potential to accelerate the development of cutting-edge cloud security features by utilizing Google's AI and infrastructure," said Schwake.
