CBS News reports that U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz's contacts were publicly exposed by an unsecured Venmo account until Tuesday. These contacts included government officials, members of Congress, service members, and journalists.
The news comes just a day after The Atlantic revealed that the country's military strike plans against the Houthi rebels in Yemen were discussed using the Signal messaging app.
Waltz's Venmo contacts list includes Trump Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who, along with Waltz, had already moved to secure their accounts.
"Venmo is a commonly used app, and Mike Waltz has made necessary updates for his personal privacy protection," said National Security Agency spokesperson James Hewitt.
German news website Der Spiegel reported that Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had their private contact details, including former and current numbers, email addresses, and passwords, exposed online.
Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe claimed in a House Intelligence Committee hearing that information shared in the Signal chat reported by The Atlantic did not include details regarding targets, weapons packages, and attack timing.
