Dell Technologies is offering enterprise infrastructure discounts to help 23 Texas local government organizations recover from a coordinated ransomware attack, according the state's Department of Information Resources.
The state of Texas has offered limited details about the ransomware attacks. Also, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s website has not mentioned the ransomware attacks as of August 19 at 11:00 a.m. ET.
Still, the Texas Department of Information Resources and various agencies are working overtime to assist the recovery -- including promoting various procurement options for replacement equipment.
Dell and Texas Government Ransomware Cleanup
In a statement that specifically mentioned Dell as a partner for the ransomware cleanup, the DIR said:
"Dell is fully committed to assisting DIR and the affected public entities by providing additional discounts on enterprise infrastructure through the Dell Bulk Purchase Initiative. As the requirements and configurations are likely to vary significantly from one entity to the next, the discount grid located here are minimum discounts. As specific requirements lead to specific configuration requests, additional discounts may be applied."
The Texas DIR also is directing departments to various network product contracts (supporting data storage, data communication & networking products and related services) and managed IT services contracts to further assist the cleanup.
State of Texas: Local Government Ransomware Recovery
Still, the state has not publicly disclosed which local government agencies were specifically hit, nor has the state disclosed if the impacted departments have effective backup and disaster recovery (BDR) platforms in place.
The state has also not disclosed whether MSSPs and forensics organizations have been hired to assist the cleanup.
