XM Cyber, a hybrid cloud security and attack path management platform provider, has acquired continuous controls monitoring (CCM) and cloud security posture management (CSPM) company Cyber Observer for an undisclosed sum. XM Cyber is a subsidiary of retail giant Schwarz Group, which acquired the company in November 2021.
This is technology M&A deal number 582 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.
XM Cyber, founded in 2016, is based in Herzliya, Israel. The company has 146 employees listed on LinkedIn. XM Cyber's areas of expertise include cybersecurity, breach and attack simulation, risk-based vulnerability management and advanced persistent threat simulation and remediation.
Cyber Observer, founded in 2012, is based in Caesarea, Israel. The company has 33 employees listed on LinkedIn. Cyber Observer's areas of expertise include cybersecurity awareness, orchestration and management.
What Does the Cyber Observer Acquisition Mean for XM Cyber?
XM Cyber will integrate Cyber Observer's platform into its attack path management offering, the company said. In doing so, XM Cyber can provide organizations with a continuous view of their security weaknesses and control gaps that fail to stop cyberattacks.
In addition, Cyber Observer allows XM Cyber to automate compliance validation and reporting for ISO, NIST, GDPR, SWIFT and PCI and other data security standards, the companies said. It also enables organizations to use XM Cyber's platform to flag and prioritize security alerts across multiple products and generate analytics.
XM Cyber Launches Open-Source Pentesting Tool for Microsoft Azure
The Cyber Observer acquisition comes after XM Cyber in December 2021 released the XMGoat open-source penetration testing tool for Microsoft Azure environments. MSSPs and MSPs can use this tool to automatically deploy scenarios in misconfigured Azure environments that are vulnerable to cyberattacks and data breaches.
Organizations can use XM Cyber's platform to identify and analyze security vulnerabilities, misconfigurations and user privileges that can lead to cyberattacks and uncover attacks across on-premises and cloud environments, the company said.
Also, XM Cyber offers the Pathfinder Partner Program to MSSPs, MSPs and other channel partners. The program provides partners with training and business planning tools and resources, access to an online partner portal and support from a dedicated professional team.
