Arctic Wolf and Datadog, in separate announcements, have introduced cloud security posture management (CSPM) tools to help organizations protect against public cloud misconfigurations and comply with industry requirements.
Arctic Wolf is a security operations center-as-a-service (SOCaaS) and managed detection and response (MDR) provider. Datadog develops SaaS-based network, infrastructure and cloud monitoring tools. Their decision to each launch CSPM capabilities on the same day underscores how quickly the market for CSPM options is growing.
Arctic Wolf CSPM: What Is It?
The new CSPM feature of Arctic Wolf Managed Risk scans Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments to identify potential misconfigurations and other cyber risks, the company noted. It is backed by the Arctic Wolf Concierge Security Team (CST) and offers the following capabilities:
- Cloud Environment Benchmarking: Assigns a risk score to quantify how a cloud environment compares to common cloud configuration benchmarks.
- Cloud Inventory Reporting: Provides an inventory and categorization of assets found within a cloud environment for auditing, monitoring and executive reporting.
- Posture Hardening Recommendations: Delivers context and remediation recommendations to help an organization cloud vulnerability gaps and improve its security posture.
Datadog Cloud Security Platform Features CSPM
Meanwhile, Datadog's new Cloud Security Platform lets organizations correlate security insights with monitoring data across infrastructure, network and application tiers, the company indicated. The platform ensures organizations can verify if their cloud environments comply with HIPAA, PCI DSS and other industry standards and identifies security misconfigurations.
In addition, the Cloud Security Platform offers a cloud workload security feature that monitors file and process activity across an organization's cloud environments to detect threats to production workloads, Datadog said. The platform also offers cloud-based security information and event management (SIEM) that provides out-of-the-box security integrations and threat detection rules.
Still, Datadog's Cloud Security Platform is not primarily designed for MSSPs yet, a spokesperson for the company says. Still, there are some MSSPs that are looking to build integrations and partnerships through the Datadog Partner Network, the spokesperson adds.

MSSPs can use CSPM tools to configure and monitor workloads running in AWS, Azure, GCP and other public clouds. That way, these tools can help MSSPs identify security misconfiguration issues and compliance risks across their customers' cloud environments.
Multiple vendors are developing or acquiring their way into the CSPM market. Palo Alto Networks, Sophos and other cybersecurity companies have integrated CSPM tools into their portfolios. Also, research indicates that approximately 90 percent of organizations are susceptible to security breaches due to cloud misconfigurations, which could drive demand for CSPM tools.
