Securing Microsoft Office 365 remains a key theme for software companies and managed IT service providers (MSPs). The latest evidence involves separate developments from Kaspersky and Long View.
Let's start with Kaspersky, a Russian cybersecurity software provider. The company has added Microsoft SharePoint Online and Teams capabilities to its Kaspersky Security for Microsoft Office 365 solution. In doing so, organizations can use the solution to secure all collaboration and messaging channels within Office 365, according to a prepared statement.
MSPs that extend the Kaspersky service to customers can ensure safe and reliable file access to SharePoint Online, the company stated. In addition, if a malicious file accesses a user endpoint and an employee tries to share it via chats or Teams channels, Kaspersky Security for Microsoft Office 365 detects and quarantines the file.
Meanwhile, services provider Long View has released its User Shield security solution for Office 365.
User Shield leverages Microsoft Azure Sentinel security information and event management (SIEM) technology to monitor and protect Office 365, as well as Microsoft Azure, Defender and Cloud App Security, Long View stated. It also uses automated playbooks for real-time threat response and is backed by Long View security operations center (SOC) monitoring.
Is Demand for Office 365 Security Solutions Increasing?
Multiple software companies recently have launched Office 365 security solutions, including:
- Vectra: Released Cognito Detect for Office 365, which allows organizations to use AI to monitor cyber threats in real-time and provides automated processes and security event consolidation, behavioral context into cyberattacks and visibility into cybercriminal behaviors.
- RocketCyber: Introduced the Office 365 Login Analyzer, Office 365 Log Monitor and Office 365 Secure Score security apps for MSPs; these apps provide Office 365 and Azure Active Directory (AD) threat visibility and intelligence.
- Perch Security: Unveiled an Office 365 threat detection service at PerchyCon 2020 in Tampa, Florida.
Safeguarding Office 365 has become a top priority for MSPs and MSSPs. Approximately 29 percent of organizations had their Office 365 accounts compromised by hackers in March 2019, an analysis of account-takeover attacks targeted at Barracuda Networks customers revealed at the time.
The analysis also showed more than 1.5 million malicious and spam emails were sent from hacked Office 365 accounts.
