ExtraHop has brought to market a new capability for its Reveal(x) network detection and response (NDR) platform that gives organizations visibility into employees' use of artificial intelligence-as-a-service (AIaaS) and OpenAI ChatGPT and other generative AI tools.
Generative AI refers to algorithms that can be used to create new audio, code, text and other forms of new content, according to global management consultant McKinsey. With AIaaS and generative AI tools, an organization's employees can quickly and easily create unique content. However, at the same time, they can expose an organization to security risks.
ExtraHop Helps Organizations Understand Their Risk Exposure
Reveal(x) now provides organizations with visibility into the devices and users on their networks that are connecting to OpenAI domains, ExtraHop stated. In doing so, organizations can get insights that they can use to adopt policies governing the use of large language models and generative AI tools. They also can assess the risk associated with their users' ongoing use of AI services.
Furthermore, organizations can utilize the new Reveal(x) capability to find out if their employees are using AIaaS and generative AI tools in conjunction with their AI policies, the company said. From here, organizations can take steps to minimize their risk of accidental exposure of confidential data.
ExtraHop CEO Patrick Dennis commented on the new Reveal(x) capability and what it means for his company's customers:

Introducing ExtraHop IDS, Automated Retrospective Detection for Reveal(x)
The new Reveal(x) capability news comes after ExtraHop in April 2023 unveiled ExtraHop IDS, which integrates with Reveal(x) to help organizations investigate cyber threats. ExtraHop recently unveiled ExtraHop IDS at the RSA Conference.
ExtraHop IDS works in conjunction with Reveal(x) to provide visibility into encrypted traffic and help organizations manage their cloud environments, the company noted. It also allows organizations to deploy and manage IDS and NDR sensors from one platform.
In addition, ExtraHop introduced the Automated Retrospective Detection for Reveal(x) feature at the RSA Conference. This feature lets organizations automatically search through historical network data to find evidence of previously unknown threats in past activity as soon as new indicators of compromise are discovered, the company said.
ExtraHop provides organizations with unified security across on-premises and cloud environments, according to the company. It offers the Panorama Partner Program for MSSPs, MSPs and other technology providers.
