Mounting adoption of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity technologies and attacker tools has prompted the National Institute of Standards and Technology to unveil the new Cybersecurity, Privacy, and AI program, which seeks to highlight the technology's benefits and risks, according to SC Media.
Aside from prioritizing AI system component and machine learning infrastructure security to mitigate the technology's cybersecurity and privacy risks, the newly created program's AI profile will also tackle techniques in combating AI-enabled cyberattacks, as well as the utilization of the technology in strengthening cybersecurity and privacy defenses, noted NIST, which said that other frameworks could also be advanced by the community profile.
"All of this highlights the critical need for standards, guidelines, tools, and practices to improve the management of cybersecurity and privacy in the age of AI, ensure the responsible adoption of AI for cybersecurity and privacy protection purposes, and identify important actions organizations must take to adapt their defensive response to AI-enabled offensive techniques," said NIST Cybersecurity for Internet of Things Program Manager Katerina Megas.
