ShiftLeft, a code security platform provider, has named Cylance founder Stuart McClure as its CEO.

McClure arrives roughly three months after ShiftLeft announced $29 million in funding from SYN Ventures and Blackstone Innovations Investments, among other backers. Around the same time. Wipro Ventures invested in the firm and parent Wipro Ltd. signed a go-to-market partnership with ShiftLeft.

New CEO Has Experience Engaging MSPs and MSSPs

McClure succeeds ShiftLeft founder CEO Manish Gupta, who will serve as an advisor. ShiftLeft will maintain its focus on DevSecOps and the application security market.

McClure previously served as CEO of Cylance, which Blackberry acquired for $1.4 billion in February 2019. Cylance was among the first endpoint detection and response (EDR) companies to aggressively engage MSSPs and MSPs. That could be a sign of things to come at ShiftLeft.

Prior to Cylance, McClure was global CTO at McAfee (acquired by Intel in 2010), president and CTO at Foundstone, which McAfee acquired in 2004. McClure also was a founding team member of the cybersecurity practices at Ernst & Young and Kaiser Permanente.

A Closer Look at ShiftLeft

ShiftLift provides the ShiftLeft Core code security platform that analyzes software applications from a cybercriminal's perspective, the company noted. The platform lets users view the flow of data across an application and its components, detect code vulnerabilities and determine if cybercriminals can exploit them.

Also, ShiftLeft offers the Code Property Graph (CPG) for code analysis, the company said. CPG provides a graphical representation of source code and defines the relationship between custom code, open-source libraries, SDKs, APIs and microservices.

ShiftLeft does not currently offer a partner program for MSSPs and MSPs. However, the company may look to offer a channel partner program in the future.
