OpenText, ranked No. 227 on MSSP Alert’s 2022 Top 250 MSSPs list, is an Ontario, Canada company founded in 1991 through a partnership with University of Waterloo and University of Oxford.
Today, the company’s primary business focus is on risk and compliance advisory services, product readiness, digital forensics and incident response (DFIR), and managed security services. Toward those outcomes, OpenText helps organizations become cyber resilient by identifying security risks, improving forensic workflows and keeping systems safe, available and protected.
OpenText Acquires Micro Focus
With its acquisition of Micro Focus, as MSSP Alert reported on January 31, OpenText now has approximately 25,000 employees. Accordingly, Micro Focus expands OpenText’s corporate mission to “help enterprise professionals secure their operations, gain more insight into their information and better manage an increasingly hybrid and complex digital fabric,” OpenText CEO Mark J. Barrenechea said.
Marc St-Pierre, global leader for Ai, LegalTech & Security Consulting Services, noted OpenText’s acquisition of Guidance Software in 2017, Carbonite (including Webroot and BrightCloud) 2019, Zix in 2021 and Bricata in 2021.
The acquisition of Guidance, says St-Pierre, solidified OpenText’s position as an MSSP, among a number of other service areas. In 2021, OpenText launched its managed eXtended detection and response service (MxDR) offering — the first offering from its security cloud.
Additionally, OpenText participated in the MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations for managed services. This activity demonstrated its leadership in cyber resilience, St-Pierre said. Thus, OpenText proved its MxDR capabilities by achieving detection of all attacker tactics and delivering zero false positives.
“Competing with well-known security vendors, OpenText emerged as a leader in managed detection and response with its MxDR offering,” St-Pierre said. “Earlier in 2022, we extended our partner programs to enable reselling of our MxDR services and our other security services.”
Partnerships Prompt Growth
Among recent success stories, OpenText notes its partnership with DEVO to power its managed security services by applying their security information and event management (SEIM) for a virtual security operations center (SOC). In early 2023, OpenText plans to expand this relationship to bring managed SIEM to DEVO customers.
As for other priorities in 2023, OpenText is creating a new business unit named OpenText CyberSecurity. The unit combines its market and s enterprise teams and the incoming Micro Focus CyberRes business.
OpenText has a Global Partner Program that allows MSSPs, MSPs and other technology providers to incorporate the company’s solutions and products into their portfolios. OpenText works with more than 1,000 partners.
