1. Hacker Alert: Internet firm Cloudflare announced on February 1 that an advanced group of hackers tried to infiltrate deep into its global network late last year but were thwarted. The company, which did not identify the hackers, said in a blog post that it had discovered the intruders on Thanksgiving in late November and ejected them the following day. The hackers were able to access "some documentation and a limited amount of source code" but Cloudflare said the operational impact of the intrusion was "extremely limited." Cloudflare said it had called in CrowdStrike to help remediate the breach (Source: Reuters)
2. AI Is Top Attack Vector, Research Shows: Keeper Security, a provider of zero trust cybersecurity software, has released findings from its latest survey about what's on the cybersecurity horizon. The survey of more than 800 IT security leaders around the globe finds that 95% believe cyberattacks are more sophisticated than they have ever been. AI-powered attacks emerge as the most serious and phishing attacks are widely considered to be increasing the fastest, the company said.
3. Cybercrime Initiative Launches: SpyCloud, a specialist in cybercrime analytics, has launched SpyCloud Labs, a cybercrime research effort focused on uncovering and analyzing the digital underground to proactively disrupt cybercrime. SpyCloud Labs offers the larger security community will have a window into the insights SpyCloud analysts gather about the underground criminal ecosystem, the company said.
4. Cyber Road Show Announced: Trend Micro announced its cybersecurity roadshow, The Risk to Resilience World Tour, will visit hundreds of cities around the world. The agenda simplifies the cyber risks surging across enterprise attack surfaces and explores the latest risk management efforts in a condensed two-hour experience and optional modular follow-on sessions, Trend Micro said. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the event co-sponsor and will bring insights and perspectives to fireside discussions occurring at many event stops.
5. NDR Product Launch: Vehere, a cybersecurity software company specializing in AI cyber network intelligence, has unveiled the latest build of its Network Security Software, NDR 1.4.1, with new features and enhancements to amplify its functionality. Vehere's AI Network Security software is a unified solution of network detection and response (NDR) and network forensics that protects the network ecosystem of enterprises through complete visibility, threat hunting, and full digital forensics and response, the company said.
6. Leadership Move: SpiderOak, a company providing cybersecurity solutions for next generation space systems, has appointed Caitlin Marsh as vice president of Product. Marsh will oversee SpiderOak's product strategy, aligning customer mission requirements, product development and market strategy, the company said.
7. Executive Appointments: Noname Security, an API security platform provider, has announced the promotion of Michael Baker to president and the appointment of Yuval Barkan as chief product officer. This news follows the December 2023 appointments of Yossi Dagan as chief financial officer, Einat Idan as chief of staff and Arie Sholomon as vice president of Research and Development.
8. Jury Award Penalizes Security Provider: A federal jury in Virginia awarded cybersecurity company Centripetal Networks $151.5 million in damages on January 31 after finding that rival Palo Alto Networks violated the company's patent rights. The jury agreed with Centripetal that Palo Alto's security software infringed four patents related to Centripetal's "threat intelligence gateway" network security technology. (Source: Reuters)
9. Cyberattack on Children's Hospital: A network outage at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago has impacted phones, email and internet service as the hospital investigates a "cyber security matter." The incident affected business at the hospital for two days. Lurie said its main hospital, outpatient centers and primary care offices were impacted. (Source: ABC7 Chicago News)
