Rapid7 Acquires Israeli Kubernetes Security Provider Alcide

Rapid7, a security information and event management (SIEM) platform provider, has purchased Israeli Kubernetes security company Alcide.IO for approximately $50 million.

This is M&A deal number 90 that MSSP Alert and ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2021. See all technology M&A deals for 2021 and 2020 listed here.

The Rapid7-Alcide.IO deal comes after Rapid7 acquired cloud security posture management (CSPM) company DivvyCloud in 2020.

The Alcide and DivvyCloud acquisitions support Rapid7's mission to provide a cloud-native security platform, the company said. They enable Rapid7 to deliver continuous management of risk and compliance across customers' cloud environments.

A Closer Look at Alcide and DivvyCloud

Alcide provides an artificial intelligence-based security platform that helps organizations scale their Kubernetes deployments without compromising on security, the company said. Alcide's platform includes the following Kubernetes security offerings:

  • kAdvisor: Kubernetes multi-cluster vulnerability scanner
  • kAudit: Kubernetes audit log analyzer
  • kArt: Kubernetes microservices firewall

DivvyCloud offers a continuous security and compliance platform that helps organizations guard against misconfigurations, policy violations, external and internal threats and identity and access management (IAM) issues, Rapid7 stated. It also provides continuous security and compliance support across cloud and container environments.

What Do the Alcide and DivvyCloud Acquisitions Mean for Rapid7?

Rapid7 will use Alcide and DivvyCloud to expand and strengthen its cloud security offering, the company noted. It will leverage Alcide's cloud workload protection (CWPP) capabilities with DivvyCloud's CSPM and cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM) capabilities to provide customers with a unified experience for managing cloud-native application security challenges.

In addition, Alcide and DivvyCloud together will help organizations continuously secure and protect their Kubernetes deployments, according to Brian Johnson, Rapid7's SVP of cloud security. They give developers the freedom to quickly and securely develop and deliver applications, Johnson said, and capitalize on the speed and innovation of Kubernetes.

Rapid7 delivers security visibility, analytics and automation via its Insight platform. The company also provides managed detection and response (MDR), vulnerability management and other managed security services and supports over 9,300 customers globally.
