Secureworks has hired Michael Aiello a chief technology officer. The high-profile hire -- Aiello previously held key security posts at Google Cloud, Goldman Sachs and HUMAN Security -- comes at a key time for Secureworks.
Indeed, the Top 250 MSSP and cybersecurity service business has been extending from traditional managed security services to XDR (eXtended Detection and Response) capabilities. The effort involves a home-grown, cloud-based security analytics platform called Taegis.
Growing Demand for Managed XDR Security Services
Demand for Taegis appears strong: For the first quarter of fiscal 2023, Taegis revenue was $37.2 million — up 167% from the corresponding quarter last year, Secureworks announced in June 2022.
With an eye toward further accelerating and expanding Taegis, Aiello will "play a pivotal role in setting the company’s long-term strategic vision to define the next horizon of cybersecurity," Secureworks said. He reports directly to President and CEO Wendy Thomas.
Prior to joining Secureworks, Aiello was:
- Chief product officer at HUMAN Security;
- Director of product management for Google Cloud’s security, privacy and data protection areas; and
- Chief information security officer (CISO) at Goldman Sachs.
In a prepared statement about the hiring, Thomas said:
“Mike has been at the helm of multiple cutting-edge initiatives at some of the world’s most recognized companies, resulting in a deep well of knowledge and experience that our customers, partners and teammates will all benefit from. His forward-thinking, strategic mindset will undoubtedly accelerate our goal to solve security’s toughest challenges as a leading innovator in cyber. The whole team welcomes Mike, and we look forward to working together to build the next frontier of cybersecurity.”
