Australian MSSP CyberCX has purchased Cyber Research NZ Limited, a New Zealand-based cybersecurity services specialist, for an undisclosed sum.

This is technology M&A deal number 171 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

The Cyber Research acquisition enhances CyberCX's security capabilities and talent base, the MSSP said. It also expands CyberCX's presence across the Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) region.

A Closer Look at Cyber Research NZ

Cyber Research partners with cybersecurity vendors to deliver a variety of services, including:

  • Managed Security Services: Consist of fully managed zero trust security.
  • Managed Security Operations: Uses a security operations center (SOC) to help organizations protect their IT assets and hunt for cyber threats.
  • Security Consulting: Helps organizations assess cyber threats and risks and determine the best ways to guard against them.
  • Security Testing: Leverages red teams that emulate real world cyberattacks to help organizations test their security controls and prepare for cyberattacks.

To date, Cyber Research has partnered with CrowdStrike, Okta and several other globally recognized cybersecurity companies. At the time of CyberCX's acquisition, Cyber Research did not offer a partner program for MSSPs or MSPs.

What Does the Cyber Research NZ Acquisition Mean for CyberCX?

The acquisition combines CyberCX's security testing, governance, risk and compliance and incident response capabilities with Cyber Research's managed security services and threat intelligence and detection capabilities, CyberCX CEO Brett Moore said. In doing so, the acquisition will help CyberCX create the leading provider of cyber security services for business, enterprise and government organizations in New Zealand."

In addition, CyberCX plans to use Cyber Research to deliver a "compelling suite of services" in the ANZ region, Moore noted. It also intends to double the size of its ANZ workforce over the next 18 months.

CyberCX manages 20 independent cybersecurity brands. It provides security information and event management (SIEM), vulnerability management and other managed security services.
