Plixer has acquired Great Bay Software, a provider of endpoint and Internet of Things (IoT) visibility solutions that identify managed, unmanaged, and unauthorized devices across networks, the companies have confirmed. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Plixer itself is owned by Battery Ventures, a private equity firm. Battery also owns a stake in Sumo Logic, a provider of cloud-based SIEM (security information and event management) and autonomous SOC (security operations center) software.

Plixer Acquires Great Bay Software: Security Portfolio Details

The combination of the Plixer and Great Bay Software, according to the companies, will allow network operations and security teams to gain:

  • Real time and historical network and endpoint visibility, extending from layer 2-7;
  • dynamic endpoint discovery, data analysis, and insights;
  • behavior analysis, monitoring, and alerting across both networks and endpoints; and
  • automated, prioritized incident response for network and security events.

In a prepared statement, Plixer President and CEO Jeff Lindholm said:

“With this acquisition, we are unifying endpoint and network visibility across a combined solution enabling network and security teams to gain improved efficiency, reduced operational complexity and expense, and automated response to security incidents, dramatically lowering risk. Great Bay Software’s people, products and partners are incredibly complementary to what we do at Plixer.”

Plixer Hires Sales Talent

Plixer has also been hiring sales talent. Recent recruits include Arbor Networks and Forcepoint veteran Chris Moulas as VP of global sales; and Juniper Networks veteran Sanjiv Verma as VP of sales based in Singapore. Earlier this year, Plixer also expanded operations into the EMEA market, the company notes.
