Cybersecurity Buy: Rockwell Automation Acquires Avnet Data Security

Rockwell Automation, an industrial automation and digital transformation solutions provider, has acquired Israeli-based cybersecurity company Avnet Data Security for an undisclosed sum.  The seller is not related to U.S. distributor Avnet.

This is M&A Deal Number 25 that MSSP Alert and ChannelE2E have covered in 2020. See the complete M&A deal list here.

Avnet provides a variety of cybersecurity services and solutions, including:

  • Cyber Academy: Includes cybersecurity training to teach employees about cyberattacks.
  • Incident Response: Protects organizations against cyberattacks in real-time.
  • IT Security: Offers penetration testing, risk assessments and application security reviews.

In addition, Avnet employs cybersecurity experts, trainers, consultants, researchers and system integration engineers.

What Does the Avnet Acquisition Mean for Rockwell?

The Avnet acquisition allows Rockwell to help its customers develop, maintain and optimize their cybersecurity strategies, the company stated. It also ensures that Rockwell can leverage Avnet's cybersecurity expertise to accelerate the growth of its information solutions and connected services revenues.

Furthermore, the Avnet acquisition enables Rockwell to expand its cybersecurity portfolio, the company indicated. It could help Rockwell capitalize on the rising demand for cybersecurity solutions globally among manufacturers as well.

Do Manufacturers Need Cybersecurity Solutions?

Cybercriminals target organizations across all industries, and manufacturers are no exception.

For example, aluminum company Norsk Hydro last year suffered a LockerGoga ransomware attack. Cybercriminals also launched LockerGoga attacks against U.S. chemicals companies Hexion and Momentive.

Cyber insurance is now available to manufacturers, too.

Specialist insurer Beazley and Marsh, an insurance brokerage and risk management solutions provider, last year introduced Manufacturer’s First Response cyber insurance coverages. Manufacturer’s First Response helps U.S. manufacturers limit cybersecurity and operational risks, respond to security breaches and comply with data security mandates.

Industrial automation & digital transformation solutions provider Rockwell Automation has acquired Israeli-based cybersecurity company Avnet Data Security.
