MSSPs often choose one of two popular paths: VARs that rely heavily upon reselling third-party products and open-source shops that stitch together publicly available tools. Both of these approaches face significant operational challenges. Service providers relying on third-party products often find themselves at the mercy of rising licensing costs and participation rules set by the vendor. At times, vendors may try to undercut an MSSP and sell directly to their customers.
Open-source service providers avoid external vendor pressures but sacrifice the comfort of technical support. If something in their security stack fails, they must troubleshoot the problem themselves. They have no guarantee that their integrated open-source solutions will scale up to thousands or tens of thousands of customers. This uncertainty creates an extra obstacle for service providers hoping to grow their business.
The limitations of both models have led forward-thinking MSSPs to seek alternatives that combine the reliability of commercial solutions with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of open-source approaches. Fortunately, there is a single solution that can address the needs of both of these MSSPs, the LimaCharlie SecOps Cloud Platform. Hear Eric Capuano, Director of Training and Product Enablement at LimaChalie (and former MSSP founder), explain how.
