3SG Plus has acquired endpoint security software firm OnGuard Systems. Financial terms were not disclosed.

3SG Plus is a technology services provider that offers custom software development, information management and geographic information systems solutions.

OnGuard, founded in 2009, offers Intelligent ID -- an endpoint-based user monitoring and analytics software designed to protect organizations against insider threats.

Intelligence ID blends data loss prevention (DLP), productivity analysis, infrastructure monitoring and identity monitoring tools, OnGuard indicated. It enables an organization to identify sensitive information across its IT environment, stay up to date about data breach risks and conduct forensic security investigations.

With OnGuard, 3SG Plus intends to offer cybersecurity products and services to the enterprise market, the company said. 3SG Plus also expects to help organizations combat insider threats.

OnGuard founder Jim Mazotas has joined 3SG Plus as the company's chief visionary officer.

How Can Organizations Address Insider Threats?

Insider threats are major problems for organizations around the world, which is reflected in a recent survey of 478 organizations conducted by security analytics firm Haystax Technology.

Key findings from the Haystax "2018 Insider Threat Report" included:

  • 90 percent of organizations said they feel susceptible to insider attacks.
  • 53 percent confirmed their organization has experienced at least one insider attack in the past 12 months.
  • 27 percent said insider attacks have become more frequent.

In addition, Haystax offered eight steps to help organizations address insider threats:

  • Create a dedicated insider threat program.
  • Sort sensitive data according to risk and establish acceptable-use policies.
  • Develop user groups based on threats to sensitive data stored both internally and externally.
  • Identify and track human risk indicators associated with insider threats, such as poor performance appraisals or odd working hours.
  • Teach employees about password management, acceptable use of sensitive data and how to report suspicious activities.
  • Deploy data encryption technologies.
  • Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) tools.
  • Track end user behaviors and activities.

MSSPs also provide endpoint security, network monitoring and other security services to organizations of all sizes and across all industries. By doing so, MSSPs help organizations keep pace with insider threats and other cyber dangers.
