Bitdefender has added the App Anomaly Detection real-time, behavior-based protection layer to its Mobile Security for Android solution.

App Anomaly Detection identifies anomalous and malicious behaviors in Android applications, the company said in a prepared statement.

Commenting on the App Anomaly Detection launch, Ciprian Istrate, senior vice president of Bitdefender's Consumer Solutions Group, said:

"Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection marks an industry first for the Android ecosystem takes malware protection to a new level capable of protecting consumers against increasingly sophisticated mobile malware, scams and Trojan applications."

How Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection Works

App Anomaly Detection uses machine learning models, real-time behavior scanning, reputation systems and other data points to monitor and detect the moment an application turns from benign to malicious, Bitdefender said. In doing so, App Anomaly Detection safeguards Android mobile users' data, financial assets and identities from fake or malicious applications.

Furthermore, App Anomaly Detection protects users even when they have inadvertently installed a dangerous app that is inactive for a period of time or an app that does not function as expected, Bitdefender noted. Also, App Anomaly Detection has been integrated into the Bitdefender Malware Scanner and monitors and detects any malicious behaviors and alerts a user if suspicious activities are identified.

App Anomaly Detection is now available for free to new and existing Mobile Security for Android users with a valid license.

Bitdefender Bolsters Security Services Portfolio

The App Anomaly Detection release comes after Bitdefender in February 2023 launched the Premium Security Plus security suite for European and Australian consumers.

Premium Security Plus provides threat prevention and detection, a password manager, a virtual private network (VPN) and digital identity protection monitoring, Bitdefender said. It also provides users with an Identity Protection Score service that analyzes personal data breach history to determine how much of a user's sensitive data is available online, the user's personal risk level and what corrective steps the user can take to better protect their identity.

Previously, Bitdefender in July 2022 announced a managed security service that provides continuous threat monitoring and response, intelligence-based threat hunting and access to security experts.

The service offers managed detection and response (MDR) capabilities tailored to MSPs and other organizations, Bitdefender noted. In addition, the services address digital transformation and cloud security challenges.

Bitdefender provides threat prevention, detection and response solutions to global consumers and organizations. The company offers a partner program for MSPs and technology resellers.
