Thales has purchased OneWelcome, a European company that specializes in customer identity and access management (CIAM) solutions, for €100 million (approximately $101 million). OneWelcome will join the Thales Digital Identity and Security global business unit as part of the acquisition, which is expected to close in the second half of 2022.

Thales, founded in 2000, is based in Paris, France. The company has 65,960 employees listed on LinkedIn. Thales' areas of expertise include cybersecurity, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and IT services and consulting.
OneWelcome, founded in 2011, is based in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. The company has 111 employees listed on LinkedIn. OneWelcome's areas of expertise include business-to-business and customer identity management.
Thales Bolsters Its Identity Platform
OneWelcome allows Thales to offer an Identity Platform that organizations can use to manage their internal and external identities, the companies said. The platform ensures organizations can manage their operations, improve the customer experience and comply with data security mandates.
In addition, Thales will use OneWelcome's expertise to address the global need for enhanced identity and data privacy management, the company noted. It also will leverage OneWelcome to further extend its global cybersecurity market reach.
A Closer Look at OneWelcome
OneWelcome provides cloud-based CIAM solutions to organizations in highly regulated industries, the company said. Organizations can use OneWelcome's solutions to connect customers and business partners to their online services.
OneWelcome says more than 80 million people use its solutions every day, reporting more than 30% year-over-year growth in 2021.
Thales Acquires Cybersecurity Companies S21sec, Excellium
The OneWelcome acquisition comes after Thales in May 2022 purchased European cybersecurity sister companies S21sec and Excellium from Sonae Investment Management, the investment arm of multinational company Sonae Group. S21sec and Excellium strengthen Thales' incident detection and response, consulting, audit and integration services and provide the company with industrial expertise and a customer base of industrial companies and critical infrastructure providers, the business noted.
Thales provides threat and evaluation, training and cyber defense services globally. It continues to explore cybersecurity market growth opportunities and plans to hire 1,000 people in cybersecurity in 2022.
