Microsoft has acquired Miburo, a cyber threat intelligence company that also offers detection and response security services.
This is technology M&A deal number 550 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.
Microsoft Buys Miburo for International Threat Intelligence
Miburo has 21 employees listed on LinkedIn. The security company, based in New York, employs researchers and consultants who help to "defend the free information environment, democracies and citizens from extremism and authoritarian influence," according to the Miburo LinkedIn page.
In a blog, Microsoft Corporate VP Tom Burt offered more perspectives on the acquisition, stating:
"With the acquisition of Miburo, we will continue our mission to take action, and to partner with others in the public and private sectors to find long-term solutions that will stop foreign adversaries from threatening public and private sector customers and, in fact, the very foundations of our democracy."
Microsoft has been an active buyer in the cybersecurity market. Noteworthy acquisitions include:
- CloudKnox Security for identity and access management;
- RiskIQ for threat intelligence;
- ReFirm Labs for IoT security; and
- CyberX for IoT and Operational Technology (OT) security.
Microsoft: MSSP Partnerships
Microsoft has also been busy building MSSP partnerships through the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA).
Somewhat similar to MISA, Amazon Web Services (AWS) in August 2021 introduced the Level 1 MSSP Competency for AWS Partners as it tries to foster new partnerships with MSSPs and ISVs. AWS Partners can earn this competency to deliver AWS security and monitoring as a fully managed service.
Also of note: Google Cloud announced a Chronicle MSSP Partner Program in April 2022.
