Kaseya: Voccola ‘Steps Up’ to Vice Chairman; Search for New CEO Begins

In a surprise move just nine days into 2025, Kaseya announced that longtime CEO Fred Voccola has given up the CEO’s seat and is now the company’s board vice chairman.

In a conversation with ChannelE2E at Dattocon 2024 in Miami, Florida, Voccola hinted that Kaseya would be making some big announcements in January and February 2025 -- February 13, to be exact -- and later this spring at Kaseya Connect. Is this one of them?

Dan Olds, principal analyst at Olds Research, told ChannelE2E that since Kaseya was performing well “over a sustained period of time and the lack of any other red flags,” he was not able to speculate on what led to the leadership move. “If it were family or health-related, or [if he was] just tired of the grind, something like that would typically be alluded to in some way in the announcement,” said Olds. “I have no idea what could be going on here, but listen closely, another shoe will drop sooner or later.”

Kaseya released a statement asserting that Voccola, who has led the cybersecurity and IT management software company as CEO for 10 years, is making the move to “focus on long-term innovation and strategy while helping the board hire a new CEO to run day-to-day operations as Kaseya enters its next phase of growth and lays the foundation for a potential public offering."

New Kaseya Study: Profitability is a Top Focus for MSPs in 2025

MSPs are prioritizing new customer acquisitions, revenue growth, and profitability as the new year begins, according to a new Kaseya study of 1,000 MSPs around the world.

The study, State of the MSP Industry 2025 Look Ahead: Trends, Growth and Strategies for Success, released through Kaseya’s Datto division, reveals that 43% of the MSPs cited new customer acquisition as very important to grow their businesses in the new year, while 37% cited revenue growth and 36% cited profitability as their top priorities.

The MSPs included in the study ranged in annual revenue from $337,000 for smaller operations with one to four employees to more than $24 million a year at larger MSPs with more than 250 employees. Some 64% of the MSPs reported revenue increases in the past year, while some 67% expect further growth in the next three years, according to the report.

“MSPs confirmed what we have known for a long time at Kaseya – profitability is extremely important for MSPs,” Gary Pica, president of Kaseya’s TruMethods MSP training and business automation platform division, told ChannelE2E. “Almost all, 91%, said it was at least a moderate priority for the year.“

2025 Predictions: What Will Change in the Channel

In 2024, the IT services channel experienced massive disruption. As Jay McBain, chief analyst at research firm Canalys explained on LinkedIn, from sea change in the managed services software market to the hundreds of thousands of tech layoffs to a shift in the way value is delivered.

And these shifts will continue into 2025.

"As we enter 2025, the companies that thrive will be those that master ecosystem expansion. Gen AI and platform economics are reshaping how technology value is created and delivered - and it's happening through partnerships, not traditional organizational structures," McBain wrote.

Here's what our experts predict for MSPs, IT services and the reseller channel in 2025.
