1. Absolute Security Acquires Syxsense: Absolute Security, a specialist in enterprise cyber resilience, has acquired Syxsense, an automated endpoint and vulnerability management provider. Embedded in the firmware of 600 million PCs, the Absolute Cyber Resilience platform delivers endpoint control, visibility and resilience for applications and security controls, the company said. With Syxsense integrated, customers will be able to add automated, vulnerability and patch management capabilities. Existing Syxsense customers and partners will continue to receive full support for existing deployments. Absolute customers will be able to add Syxsense endpoint and vulnerability management capabilities. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
2. Darktrace Names CEO: Darktrace, a cybersecurity AI specialist, announced that Poppy Gustafsson is stepping down as CEO and Jill Popelka, Darktrace's current chief operating officer, has been appointed as CEO and will also be a member of the Darktrace Board of Directors. Popelka previously held senior leadership roles at Accenture, Snap Inc. and SAP SuccessFactors.
3. Imperva Appoints New CTO: Imperva, a cybersecurity company that protects critical applications, APIs and data, has named David Holmes as chief technology officer of Imperva Application Security. As a Forrester Research analyst, Holmes authored numerous papers on network security, application security, SASE, DDoS, cryptography and zero trust, equipping security leaders with the foresight needed to navigate emerging threats and stay ahead of the threat landscape, the company said.
4. WillDom and KIO Form Alliance: WillDom has announced a strategic alliance with KIO, a specialist in data center and cybersecurity solutions. This partnership combines WillDom's technology expertise with KIO's cybersecurity offerings to deliver solutions for clients across all industries. With more than 20 years in the market, KIO serves some of the largest companies in Mexico, particularly in the retail and finance sectors. WillDom benefits from this partnership as they plan to offer cybersecurity services to their clients to help them protect sensitive data, prevent cyberattacks, maintain business continuity and stay compliant with regulations, the company said.
5. Stealth-ISS Group Debuts GRC-as-a-Service for SMBs: Stealth-ISS Group, a cybersecurity services provider, has launched its GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) service. GRC-as-a-Service is a tailored solution aimed at enhancing security and compliance for small and midsize businesses (SMBs). This service integrates governance, risk management and adherence to industry regulations into business processes, the company said.
6. Acuvity Emerges from Stealth: Acuvity, an AI security and governance platform provider, has announced a $9 million seed funding round led by Foundation Capital. Acuvity will use the funding to accelerate the development of its products to protect the rapid expansion of AI adoption. Acuvity’s platform governs employee accessing generative AI while companies build generative AI applications securely without slowing innovation, the company said.
7. Cynomi Issues vCISO Report: Cynomi, a platform provider for MSSPs and MSPs, has released is State of the vCISO 2024 report. Nearly all MSPs and MSSPs that don’t currently offer vCISO services — a whopping 98% — plan to add vCISO services to their offering, Cynomi reports. Offering vCISO services provides a wide range of business benefits and opportunities to MSPs and MSSPs, according to Cynomi. The top three are: improving customer security (46%), increasing client engagement (44%) and increasing margins (37%). This shows that the business benefits are aligned with customer needs, Cynomi said.
8. US Indicts Russian Intelligence Officials Over Cyberattacks: The U.S. on Thursday charged five Russian intelligence officials and a Russian civilian with conspiring to launch cyberattacks against Ukraine and its allies. The Justice Department said a cyber unit of Russia's military intelligence agency conducted "large-scale cyber operations" starting as far back as 2020, before Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. In addition to targeting Ukraine, they allegedly targeted the systems of at least 26 NATO countries by scanning them for vulnerabilities, according to the indictment. (Source: Reuters)
9. CyberRisk Alliance Issues Cybersecurity Buyer’s Intelligence Report: CyberRisk Alliance (CRA) has released its latest Cybersecurity Buyer’s Intelligence Report focused on application security. The report, based on a survey conducted among security and IT leaders, delivers insights into the current state of application security practices and challenges facing organizations today. Among the key findings, 81% of survey respondents indicated that high accuracy and minimal false positives are their top priorities when selecting an application security tool. Additionally, 81% also emphasized the importance of regular updates to address the latest vulnerabilities, underscoring the critical need for tools that can keep pace with evolving threats.
