1. Cohesity, CrowdStrike Partnership Enhances Threat Detection, Response: Cohesity, a specialist in AI-powered data security, has expanded its strategic partnership with CrowdStrike to strengthen threat detection and response. Cohesity’s data protection solution, combined with CrowdStrike’s threat intel feeds, enables mutual customers to identify the latest threats in their backup copies with higher fidelity and accuracy, according to the companies.
2. ConnectWise Acquires Axcient, SkyKick: ConnectWise, a software company focused on MSPs, announced a pair of acquisitions this week. ConnectWise has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Axcient, a provider of data protection and disaster recovery solutions, and has acquired SkyKick, a backup and management software provider. These acquisitions enhance ConnectWise's cybersecurity and data protection offerings, reinforcing the critical role of data protection as the last line of defense against cyber threats such as ransomware and phishing, the company said.
3. Microsoft Software Suite Sustains Outage: Microsoft reports that its cloud-based productivity software suite, which includes Word, Excel and Teams, has recovered after an outage impacted thousands of users on Thursday. The company said a change within a third-party internet service provider's "managed-environment" resulted in an impact. The outage comes nearly two months after a faulty software update from cybersecurity services provider CrowdStrike affected nearly 8.5 million Windows devices. (Source: Reuters)
4. Mastercard Buys Recorded Future: Mastercard has agreed to buy threat intelligence company Recorded Future from private equity firm Insight Partners for $2.65 billion, the payments company said on Thursday. The acquisition will bring expanded threat intelligence capabilities to the New York-based company. Mastercard is already collaborating with Recorded Future, which uses AI-powered analytics to identify potential threats, on a service that alerts financial institutions when a card is likely compromised. The company currently offers cybersecurity services such as identity fraud prevention and real-time decision-making to its clients. (Source: Reuters)
5. ColorTokens Acquires PureID: ColorTokens Inc., a global enterprise microsegmentation company, has acquired PureID, a startup specializing in secure identity and access management. The acquisition will strengthen ColorTokens' microsegmentation capabilities by integrating identity solutions, the company said.
6. Reality Defender-Wolftech Partnership Bolsters Deepfake Detection: Reality Defender, a deepfake detection platform provider, and Wolftech, a story-centric workflow management system, have formed a partnership to integrate deepfake detection capabilities into the Wolftech platform. By integrating Reality Defender's deepfake detection technology, Wolftech users can detect and flag manipulated media, enhancing the overall quality and accuracy of their storytelling without leaving their publishing workflow, the companies said.
7. SentinelOne Achieves FedRAMP Designation: SentinelOne announced that the SentinelOne Singularity Platform has achieved the FedRAMP High In-Process designation from the FedRAMP PMO. The FedRAMP High designation builds upon SentinelOne’s current status as FedRAMP Moderate. The company is working closely with MindPoint Group, to achieve full authorization to operate by the end of the year.
8. Aembit Raises $25 Million: Aembit, a non-human identity and access management (IAM) company, has secured $25 million in Series A funding, bringing its total capital raised to nearly $45 million. Acrew Capital led the round, with participation from existing investors Ballistic Ventures, Ten Eleven Ventures, Okta Ventures and CrowdStrike Falcon Fund. Organizations use Aembit to eliminate storage of sensitive secrets within applications or vaults by moving to short-lived access tokens with a no-code auth approach, the company said.
9. Abnormal Security Report Targets Transportation Industry Cyberattacks: A new report from Abnormal Security, "Threats in Transit: Cyberattacks Disrupting the Transportation Industry," explores the latest attack trends in the transportation industry and learn how to defend against rising threats like phishing. Between July 2023 and July 2024, phishing attacks on transportation organizations increased by an alarming 175%, Abnormal Security reports.
10. Quorum Cyber Acquires Difenda: Quorum Cyber, a cybersecurity company with offices in the U.K. and U.S., has acquired Difenda, a Canadian-based, full-stack Microsoft security managed services company. The acquisition aligns with Quorum Cyber’s strategic objective to accelerate its global expansion and scale meaningfully into new regions. Joining Quorum Cyber will enable Difenda to deliver more value, new and enhanced services, and more Microsoft innovations for customers, the company said.
