1. Fortinet Acquires Next DLP: Fortinet has acquired Next DLP, a specialist in insider risk and data protection. Fortinet plans to integrate Next DLP’s technology to add advanced data loss prevention capabilities within Fortinet’s security service edge (SSE) offering, as well as integrate additional insider risk and data protection capabilities across the Fortinet Security Fabric, the company said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
2. OPSWAT Acquires InQuest: OPSWAT, a provider of critical infrastructure protection cybersecurity solutions, announced at Black Hat USA that it has acquired InQuest, a cybersecurity solutions provider known for its Deep File Inspection and RetroHunting technologies. OPSWAT will accelerate its go-to-market strategy for the federal market and enhance protection against network-based threats, the company said. By merging InQuest's threat intelligence capabilities with OPSWAT MetaDefender Cloud and FileScan.io into a single repository, OPSWAT plans to significantly boost its intelligence capabilities, while InQuest customers will also benefit from enhanced network detection and response (NDR) with built-in integration with MetaDefender. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
3. EQT Stakes Acronis: Acronis, a data protection specialist, announced that EQT, a European private equity firm, will acquire a majority stake in the company. The partnership between Acronis and EQT builds upon a shared growth vision, commitment to accelerating the expansion of its platform, and continued strong focus on customer service, the companies said. The transaction is pending customary regulatory approvals and is anticipated to be in the first to second quarter of 2025. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
4. Beyond Identity Makes Reality Check: Beyond Identity, a secure identity and access management platform provider, has released RealityCheck, an identity assurance plugin for Zoom Video Communications. Beyond Identity's new solution protects organizations from AI deception, such as impersonation attacks and deepfakes, by certifying the authenticity of call participants using the highest level of authentication assurance: Authenticator Assurance Level 3 (AAL3) combined with device security verification, the company said.
5. NetRise Secures Windows Assets: NetRise, an Extended Internet of Things (XIoT) security provider, has announced a significant expansion of its NetRise Platform. The NetRise Platform now supports the analysis of containers and Windows software assets and offers a single pane of glass for viewing and managing software supply chain detection and response efforts, the company said.
6. Legit Security Launches AI Command Center: Legit Security, an application security posture management (ASPM) provider, has launched its AI Security Command Center. This AI security dashboard provides security teams with a unified console to efficiently and proactively gain visibility to AI used in development and defend against cyberattacks exploiting AI-based applications, mitigating the use of risky AI models in development environments and application code, the company said.
7. LevelBlue Research Targets CISOs: LevelBlue, a provider of managed security services, strategic consulting and threat intelligence, has released the LevelBlue Accelerator: C-Suite Cyber Resilience Responsibilities, an analysis of C-level executives who are responsible for cyber resilience with their organizations. The Accelerator found that 73% of CISOs expressed concern over cybersecurity becoming unwieldy, requiring risk-laden tradeoffs, compared to only 58% of both CIOs and CTOs. Additionally, 73% of CISOs feel more pressure to implement AI strategies versus just 58% of CIOs and CTOs.
8. Grip, GuidePoint Partner: Grip Security, a SaaS identity risk management specialist, is partnering with GuidePoint Security, a cybersecurity services and solutions provider. Grip's partnership with GuidePoint aims to help organizations realize the productivity and operational benefits of SaaS while effectively managing the risks introduced by end-users procuring and adopting their own SaaS applications, the companies said.
9. Rapid7 Releases Ransomware Report: Rapid7, an extended risk and threat detection provider, has released its Ransomware Radar Report in conjunction with the company’s presence at Black Hat USA. Within the first six months of 2024, Rapid7 observed 21 new ransomware groups entering the scene. One of the most notable of these new groups, RansomHub, has quickly established itself as a prominent extortion group by making 181 posts to its leak site between February 10 and June 30, 2024, Rapid7 said.
10. Critical Start Creates Cyber Range: Critical Start, a managed detection and response (MDR) provider, has launched the Critical Start Cyber Range. Cyber Range is a virtual environment that simulates real-world cyber threats and scenarios curated from thousands of real-world attacks identified and stopped by the Critical Start MDR security operations team. This capability allows organizations to train their cybersecurity teams on the MDR service user interface, test new security products as organization migrate to new cybersecurity vendors, and evaluate their overall cyber readiness without risking their actual infrastructure, the company said.
