Today’s MSSP Alert Market News:

1. Free Malware Scan Tool Offered: NordVPN has launched File Checker, a free online tool that scans different types of files for malware and viruses. File Checker helps to prevent malicious codes invading user’s devices through infected or corrupted files downloaded online. Users should simply upload the suspicious file to the tool to check whether the file might be a threat. If the file is safe to open, File Checker will notify that it shows no signs of malicious activity. If that's not the case, the tool will alert that the file might be malicious, NordVPN said.

2. Security Product Launch: SCYTHE, a specialist in advanced adversarial emulation and comprehensive cybersecurity risk management, has released SCYTHE 4.3. This latest version brings enhancements designed to support and advance cybersecurity teams' capabilities in threat emulation, vulnerability management and security integration. SCYTHE 4.3 includes several new integrations with endpoint detection and response (Crowdstrike, SentinelOne, and Microsoft Defender) and security information and event management (SIEM) systems (Splunk, Sentinel, Chronicle, and Elastic).

3. Industry Recognition: Frost & Sullivan has awarded Hornetsecurity its 2024 EMEA Company of the Year Award. Hornetsecurity is a global cloud-based email security solutions provider whose platform offers disruptive email live tracking and threat tracking capabilities, delivering administrators and end users visibility into their security posture, the company said.

4. Cyber Shop Focuses on Leadership Services: Cynergence, a niche firm dedicated to cybersecurity, has announced its official launch. Cynergence's mission is to support senior executives in their journey toward stronger cybersecurity leadership. Cynergence services are offered via retainer to provide flexibility. Leaders can purchase 10, 20, 30, or more hours to use as they need. Cynergence services are provided by video conference and are available to more than 35 countries, the company said.

5. Industry Recognition: Binary Defense, a managed detection and response (MDR) and enterprise defense provider, has been recognized for the sixth year as a Representative Vendor in the 2024 Gartner Market Guide for Managed Detection and Response report. "We believe the distinct advantages of our highly skilled and experienced SOC, threat hunting, counterintelligence and incident response team, coupled with our open XDR strategy, continue to distinguish us in a crowded MDR market," said Binary Defense CEO Bob Meindl.

6. Funding for AI Startups: At the Artificial SuperIntelligence (ASI) Alliance Summit, Yunity launched IMAGINE, an ecosystem supporting impact-driven startups with the resources to build better companies. Through a joint venture with ASI Co-Founder, SingularityNET, IMAGINE will invest $1 billion in beneficial AI and deep tech startups, Yunity said.

7. Hacker Alert: Software firm HubSpot said on Friday it is investigating a cybersecurity incident that targeted its customers. The company said the hackers were able to gain unauthorized access to less than 50 HubSpot accounts and there were no new instances of a hack in the last 24 hours as of 4 p.m. ET on Friday. HubSpot makes marketing software for small and medium-sized businesses and specializes in customer relationship management. (Source: Reuters)

8. Fake Support Sites Detected: Fake IT support sites that promote malicious PowerShell "fixes" for common Windows errors, such as the 0x80070643 error that infect devices with information-stealing malware, have been discovered by eSentire's Threat Response Unit. The fake support sites are promoted through YouTube channels that have been compromised and hijacked to add legitimacy to the content creator. The threat actors are creating fake videos promoting a fix for the 0x80070643 error that millions of Windows users have been dealing with since January. (Source: Bleeping Computer)

9. Malware Alert: The threat actor known as Transparent Tribe has continued to unleash malware-laced Android apps as part of a social engineering campaign. The campaign, dubbed CapraTube, deployed a hacking crew using weaponized Android apps impersonating legitimate apps like YouTube to deliver a spyware called CapraRAT, a modified version of AndroRAT with capabilities to capture a wide range of sensitive data. 10. U.K. SOC Launches: MSSP CloudGuard, a specialist in Microsoft security automation, has launched its Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Manchester, U.K. This strategic expansion aims to address growing customer demands, offering continuous security expertise to businesses both in the U.K. and globally, the company said.
