Today, January 28, is Data Privacy Day, and a new survey from Acronis revealed some interesting insight into attitudes and behaviors regarding cybersecurity and data protection.
Despite heightened awareness of the prevalence and the consequences of data breaches, 25% of the more than 2,000 survey respondents from eight countries have experienced data theft or loss, and 12% remain unsure if they’ve been breached.
Two-thirds (66%) of respondents said they back up their data regularly, while 9% don’t back up their data at all. Surprisingly, 4% don’t know what backup means.
Younger respondents (those under 35) reported significantly more breach incidents than older demographics (55–64), potentially reflecting riskier digital habits -- maybe that accounts for the 4% who didn't know the meaning of 'backup?'
