Clop ransomware gang exploits SysAid server bug

MSP tools platform company Kaseya has acquired SaaS Alerts, the cloud security platform that looks for anomalies in user behavior to detect cybersecurity issues.

Kaseya will continue to operate SaaS Alerts with its existing customers and integrations. In addition, SaaS Alerts’ technology will become part of the new Kaseya 365 User offering, provided to MSP customers at a promotional price of $2.79 per user per month. Other components of that offering are a phishing detection solution and a security awareness training tool.

SaaS Alerts CEO Jim Lippie said that the combination of his platform with Kaseya’s Rocket MDR platform could create a killer SIEM solution. He also told MSSP Alert that telemetry data from SaaS Alerts and Kaseya’s other security offerings could be used to inform and optimize the company’s security awareness training tool prepping users for the prevalent threats at any given time.

Today’s MSSP Update

1. Not acquired by Kaseya - There apparently was quite a lot of speculation about just which company Kaseya would announce it had acquired. Blumira issued a statement, confirming that it remains an independent provider of cloud SIEM solutions. “Not us,” said Matt Warner, CTO and co-founder of Blumira. The company added that it continues to prioritize driving innovation and delivering high-impact security solutions to its partners and customers. The company’s commitment to empowering MSPs with cutting-edge, scalable cybersecurity technology remains as strong as ever, Blumira said.

2. Kaseya’s cybersecurity pricing - Cybersecurity was a big component of Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola’s keynote address at Kaseya DattoCon in Miami. He said SMBs are the number one target of cybercriminals, and ransomware attacks against SMBs have increased by 350% since 2020. Yet nearly 50% of SMBs aren’t properly protected due to cost concerns. Voccola has said his goal with Kaseya 365 is to lower the unit cost economics for MSPs, making it possible for them to provide EDR, MDR and backup to every SMB customer for a low price per endpoint.

3. A non-Kaseya acquisition - Proofpoint has entered a definitive agreement to acquire the data security posture management network, Normalyze. With this acquisition, Proofpoint is marrying its human-centric security platform with Normalyze's AI-powered DSPM technology, allowing customers to discover, classify and protect data at scale while mitigating human risk.

4. MXDR enhancements - MSSP SecureCyber, which specializes in proactive threat intelligence, 24/7 cyber defense, response and customized solutions, has unveiled enhancements to its managed extended detection and response (MXDR) platform through seamless integration with the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC).The enhanced platform empowers SOC analysts to operate with greater speed and precision, ensuring stronger protection of critical financial data and infrastructure.

5. FedRAMP news - Keeper has completed the transition to Revision 5 Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) security controls baseline. This accomplishment builds on Keeper achieving FedRAMP Authorization at the Moderate Impact Level for KSGC in August 2022, as well as StateRAMP Authorization in December 2022.
