MSSP Market Update: Many Cybersecurity Leaders Looking for New Jobs

How are your cybersecurity technicians coping with alert fatigue and the weight of protecting businesses and the world from cybersecurity attacks by threat actors? How are you coping with it?

A new report from BlackFog takes a look into the issues around mental health and coping with stress in the cybersecurity domain. It’s a question that has implications for the workforce. Nearly a quarter of cybersecurity leaders are actively looking to leave their organizations, and almost half cope with job stress with drugs or alcohol.

Today’s update also includes a service provider acquisition, a funding round, a new threat report on new quishing tactics and a few product announcements.

1. Coping with cybersecurity stress -
Ransomware prevention and cyberwarfare specialist BlackFog’s most recent research shows that nearly a quarter of cybersecurity leaders are actively looking to leavetheir organizations. What’s more nearly half cope with job stress with drugs or alcohol (45%) and the majority (69%) have withdrawn from social activities in the last six months. The research is based on data from security decision makers across the US and UK.

2. Cybersecurity services acquisition - RKON Technologies, a cybersecurity and managed IT services firm, has acquired Bridge Security Advisors, a specialist in cloud security, governance risk and compliance (GRC), and identity and access management solutions. The acquisition is part of RKON’s strategic push to broaden its cybersecurity capabilities and meet the increasing demand for comprehensive security solutions.

3. Change in tactics on QR codes -  Barracuda’s newest threat report focuses on how cybercriminals are using QR codes to carry out attacks. In the three-month period from mid-June to mid-September, Barracuda researchers identified and analyzed more than half a million phishing emails with QR codes embedded in PDF documents. The PDFs are attached to phishing emails that use brand impersonation and urgency to motivate would-be victims to respond. The company said this is a notable change in tactics: In the past, QR codes were traditionally included in the body of phishing emails.

4. Managing machine identities - At its annual conference Navigate 2024, SailPoint is rolling out Machine Identity Security Solution, designed to address, secure and manage the growing number of machine identities in IT estates.

5. Adding privileged task automation - Sailpoint is also rolling out Privileged Task Automation Capability. This solution helps organizations improve productivity by enabling automation and delegation of repeatable privileged tasks. The capability integrates with common credential vaults and automates the use of credentials for each bask without exposing them o the user.

6. Funding round - Stream.Security, a provider of real-time cloud security solutions, has closed a $30 million Series B funding round led by U.S. Venture Partners, with participation from new investors, Citi Ventures, and existing investors, Energy Impact Partners (EIP), Cervin Ventures, TLV Partners, and Glilot Capital Partners VC. This new round of funding brings the total investment in Stream.Security to $55 million. Stream.Security’s Cloud Twin technology provides SecOps teams with real-time cloud threat and exposure modeling to accelerate response.
