Owl Cyber Defense, a DC Capital Partners portfolio company, has purchased Big Bad Wolf Security (BBWS) as it looks to expand its product portfolio, according to a prepared statement.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
This is technology M&A deal number 236 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2023.
Owl, founded in 1999, is based in Columbia, Maryland. The company has 164 employees listed on LinkedIn. Owl's areas of expertise include cross domain solutions (CDS) and data diode technology.
BBWS, founded in 2014, is based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The company is not listed on LinkedIn. BBWS's areas of expertise include software development, security analysis and research.
Owl's Focus on Cloud Security
BBWS provides Owl with a team of cybersecurity innovators with expertise in cloud security and CDS, the companies said. BBWS bolsters Owl's current product portfolio and enables the company to develop new solutions. In addition, BBWS provides Owl with support for identity and access management (IAM) configuration for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other cloud providers.
The BBWS acquisition also lines up with Owl's commitment to invest in CDS, which allow trusted network domains to exchange information with each other. To date, Owl has invested over $100 million in CDS technologies, the company stated. Going forward, Owl said it plans to use BBWS's capabilities to provide next-generation CDS and data diode products.
Owl Partners with Cybersecurity Value-Added Distributor
The BBWS acquisition comes after Owl in September 2022 partnered with CyberKnight Technologies to address "cybersecurity threats impacting critical infrastructure and government ministries in the Middle East," the companies said.
Middle East organizations can use Owl's CDS in combination with CyberKnight's zero trust architecture, the companies stated. That way, they can eliminate security gaps across their hybrid IT operations and drive digital transformation.
A Closer Look at Owl Cyber Defense
Owl delivers cross domain, data diode and portable media solutions globally. Organizations can use these solutions to strengthen their security checkpoints, protect against threats and secure their data, the company said.
Meanwhile, Owl has a partnership in place with Dell Technologies to deliver hardware-enforced security that helps organizations monitor, update and remotely access their data vaults, the company noted. Owl also offers a partner program for technology providers.
