REvil Ransomware Attacks Quanta; Seeks to Extort Apple

The REvil ransomware gang has attacked Apple partner and laptop manufacturer Quanta Computer, and is seeking to extort payment from Apple, according to The Record.

Quanta downplayed the alleged attack -- saying that it does not expect to suffer any material business impact, Reuters reports.

Teaser teaser data and product images related to the attack posted on the Dark Web so far don't show anything particularly confidential. And it's unclear whether Apple and/or Quanta will take any specific steps to negotiate with the alleged digital attackers.

Still, the alleged attackers made ominous threats on the Dark Web, according to The Record, writing:

“Our team is negotiating the sale of large quantities of confidential drawings and gigabytes of personal data with several major brands. We recommend that Apple buy back the available data by May 1.”
