AT&T, a Top 100 MSSP for 2017, has finalized its acquisition of unified security management (USM) platform provider AlienVault and launched a cybersecurity solutions business division led by AlienVault President and CEO Barmak Meftah. Anecdotal evidence suggests the security software provider's focus and commitment to MSSP partners remains in place.
AT&T previously announced plans to acquire AlienVault in a July 2018 disclosure.
The AT&T standalone cybersecurity solutions business division will provide cybersecurity capabilities and technologies to companies of all sizes around the globe, the company says. It also will support AlienVault's MSSP, value-added reseller (VAR) and distributor channel sales partners and invest in the company's cybersecurity technology and threat research.

A Closer Look at AT&T's AlienVault Acquisition
AT&T has integrated AlienVault's USM platform into its cybersecurity services, the company said. By doing so, AT&T business customers can access AlienVault's threat detection and response capabilities.
With the acquisition, AT&T could capitalize on the rising demand for unified threat management solutions, too.
The global unified threat management market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 percent between 2017 and 2023, according to industry analyst Market Research Future. This sector also could be worth approximately $7 billion by 2023.
AlienVault Adds EDR Capabilities to USM Anywhere
In addition to its acquisition by AT&T, AlienVault last month integrated endpoint detection and response (EDR) capabilities into its USM Anywhere threat detection, incident response and compliance management platform.
USM Anywhere's EDR capabilities enable users to centralize security monitoring of their endpoint and network activities across cloud and on-premises environments, the company indicated. They are available via AlienVault Agent, an endpoint agent based on osquery that can be deployed on Windows and Linux endpoints.
Also, USM Anywhere's EDR capabilities allow users to correlate network and endpoint security data, the company noted. This helps users prioritize cyber threats and speed up incident investigation and response.
USM Anywhere's EDR capabilities are fully integrated into the platform and available to all customers, and no subscription upgrades or updates are required.

Founded in 2007, AlienVault offers cloud security management, threat detection and other cybersecurity solutions to more than 7,000 organizations globally.
The company added over 200 MSSP partners in 2017, and more than 500 MSSP partners leverage its USM platform. Furthermore, the firm reported more than 50 percent year-over-year revenue growth in 2017 and recorded annual recurring revenue growth over 60 percent in the last two years.
