The BlackBerry Security Summit 2022 was an occasion to announce Blackberry’s new Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) offering, enhancements to its AI-based cybersecurity portfolio, and the latest applications, software solutions and cloud services.

BlackBerry, in an October 26 prepared statement, described CTI as a “professional threat intelligence service to help customers prevent, detect, and effectively respond to cyberattacks.”

Delivered on a quarterly subscription basis, the CTI service provides “actionable intelligence on targeted attacks and cybercrime-motivated threat actors and campaigns.” BlackBerry added CTI’s intelligence reports are specific to industries, regions and countries.

Ismael Valenzuela, BlackBerry’s vice president of Threat Research and Intelligence, explained the imperative behind the CTI release:

"Being cyber resilient means making the right decisions at the right time. Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated and threat actors move quickly. BlackBerry's Cyber Threat Intelligence delivers the details needed to improve detection and response, so organizations can stay on top of cyber threat activity and anticipate any next moves."

Stronger AI-Based Security

BlackBerry’s enhancements to its AI-based cybersecurity portfolio will help its customers strengthen their overall security posture, improve workflows, and ensure business resilience, the company said. Capabilities include improved data context for zero-trust network access, and faster, more efficient operations to stay one step ahead of cyber threats.

As Billy Ho, BlackBerry’s executive vice president of Security Products, explained:

"BlackBerry is focused on delivering solutions that help businesses safeguard their sensitive data, solve challenges and stay on top of a rapidly evolving cyberthreat landscape. These new capabilities further strengthen our end-to-end approach to cybersecurity that's deeply rooted in the advanced intelligence of our Cylance platform."

BlackBerry Expands Vendor Relationships

BlackBerry’s new applications, software solutions, and cloud services are available through its independent software vendor (ISV) ecosystem within the BlackBerry Marketplace for Enterprise Software.

Alex Willis, BlackBerry’s vice president of Sales Engineering and ISV Partners, described the inspiration behind the partnerships:

"Through these partnerships, we are providing businesses with new solutions to help them solve complex problems and prioritize security. With the common goal of keeping customer needs top-of-mind in a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape, we are proud to work with leading independent software vendors to drive innovation and offer differentiated solutions across BlackBerry's cybersecurity suite."

BlackBerry named the ISV partners with new solutions available on the Marketplace:

  • SafeBreach offers SafeBreach Studio, a no-code red-team automation platform.
  • Blue Cedar customers now have a free license to use Blue Cedar BlackBerry Edition to create one BlackBerry Dynamics-enabled app for production deployment.
  • Movius now offers the MultiLine solution for using mobile voice, text and WhatsApp for communications globally.
  • Absolute recently added CylancePROTECT to its Application Resilience catalog. Joint BlackBerry and Absolute Resilience customers can extend Absolute's firmware-embedded, self-healing device connection to CylancePROTECT.
  • Exabeam SIEM and Exabeam Security Log Management complement CylancePROTECT and CylanceOPTICS in providing CylanceGUARD analysts with critical feeds and insights from any security technology stack.
  • ISEC7’s signature product, ISEC7 Sphere, now supports the BlackBerry product portfolio, including Cylance cybersecurity products.
