12. Dept. Homeland Security Malware Warning: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned organizations and service providers about Hoplight, a piece of malware allegedly launched and/or spread by North Korea.
11. Cyber Breach Investigation: Georgia Tech has hired FireEye's Mandiant group and Ankura to investigate a recent cybersecurity breach, the university disclosed yesterday.
10. Cybercrime - Financial Services: Hackers attempted make fraudulent bank transactions ranging from $250,000 to $2 million in 2018, down from tens of millions of dollars in the previous two years, interbank messaging system Swift said in a report Wednesday, Bloomberg reports. Almost all fraudulent transactions -- 83 percent -- were sent to banks in the Asia-Pacific region, while the targeted lenders were mostly located in countries rated highly corrupt by international regulators, the report adds.
9. Cyber Training: The Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) Institute has expanded its cloud certifications and now offers cyber security awareness training at no cost.
8. Privacy - Amazon Alexa: As some privacy experts feared, Amazon allegedly listens to Alexa conversations without customers' knowledge, Bloomberg claims.
7. Cyber Testing: More than half of organizations with cybersecurity incident response plans fail to test those plans, according to research from Ponemon Institute and IBM.
6. Research - Phishing Attacks: Roughly 25 percent of phishing emails bypass Office 365 security, using malicious links and attachments as the main vectors according to the Avanan Global Phish Report.
5. Funding - IoT Security: Armis, an enterprise IoT security company, has raised $65 million in Series C funding, bringing the company’s total funding to $112 million. The round was led by Sequoia Capital, with Insight Venture Partners and Intermountain Ventures joining, among others involved. Key focus areas include the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), encompassing medical devices like connected infusion pumps, MRI machines, X-Ray machines, smart beds, and patient monitors.
4. eSentire Growth - Update: eSentire, a Top 100 MSSP and Top 20 MDR service provider, recently disclosed selected business growth figures. But we weren't quite sure what the figures represented so we asked for more info. The answer: eSentire's bookings grew roughly 50 percent in 2018, and 40 percent of the year over year growth involved channel bookings, according to a spokesperson for the company. The company has not disclosed actual revenue or profit figures.
3. MSP - vCISO Services: OneNeck IT Solutions has launched a virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) service.

MSSP Deployment: eMazzanti Technologies, a New York City area IT consultant and MSSP, has launched a Cyber-Security Cloud, which centralizes customer security management and reporting from a single cloud-based interface. The platform leverages WatchGuard Cloud, a new multi-tenant dashboard for MSPs and MSSPs.
