MKACyber, a Virginia-based MSSP that specializes in enterprise and government security operations and consulting services, has secured $4.1 million in Series A financing. The company also named several heavy hitters to its board of directors.
MKACyber, led by US-CERT and RSA Security veteran Mischel Kwon as CEO, intends to use the Series A funding to bolster its business, sales and channel initiatives, customer support and marketing activities, MKACyber said in a prepared statement.
Also, MKACyber has added the following cybersecurity industry leaders to its board of directors:
- Tom Ridge: Founder and chairman of Ridge Globe, a business development firm that helps organizations reduce their security risks. Ridge served as the first secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and first U.S. assistant to the president for Homeland Security and was twice-elected governor of Pennsylvania.
- Tiffany Jones: Vice president of global strategic partnerships and alliance operations at cybersecurity and malware protection company FireEye. Prior to joining FireEye, Jones spent more than a decade at Symantec and held various positions in the U.S. Coast Guard and federal government.
- Deborah Lee James: Former secretary of the U.S. Air Force. James has three decades of homeland and national security experience.
These cybersecurity leaders are expected to assist MKACyber as the company looks to expand its solutions portfolio, according to the business.
Furthermore, MKACyber now boasts many years of "feet on the street" experience to help enterprise and government organizations address their security operations challenges, Ridge said in a company statement.

MKACyber was founded in 2010 by Mischel Kwon, the former director of the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) and vice president of public sector security at RSA Security.
The business provides the following cybersecurity solutions to enterprise and government organizations:

- Operational security policy and compliance.
- Security architecture.
- Vulnerability management.
MKACyber works with both commercial and federal government customers across executive and technical levels, the company stated.
