Sophos Launches Managed Threat Response Service: What MSSPs Need to Know

Sophos has launched Sophos Managed Threat Response (MTR), a managed threat hunting, detection and response service designed to help organizations neutralize advanced cyber threats.

The launch is particularly important for MSP and MSSP (managed security services provider) partners. While many security software vendors now sell MDR (managed detection and response) services directly to end-customers, Sophos has repeatedly vowed to ensure MTR is a channel-centric service.

The Sophos MTR announcement comes after Sophos acquired Rook Security, a Top 20 MDR provider, and MDR specialist DarkBytes earlier this year.

Sophos MTR leverages Sophos' Intercept X Advanced endpoint detection and response (EDR) service and Rook Security and DarkBytes MDR technologies. It offers a variety of security capabilities, including:

  • Security Health Guidance: Provides insights into managed and unmanaged assets and vulnerabilities, along with guidance to help organizations address configuration and architecture weaknesses.
  • Threat Hunting: Anticipates cyberattacker behavior and identifies indicators of attack and compromise.
  • Threat Intelligence: Applies threat intelligence to confirm cyber threats and disrupt, contain and neutralize these threats.

Sophos MTR is now available via Sophos partners worldwide, and it is customizable with different service tiers and response modes.

What Does the Future Hold for Sophos in the MDR Market?

Global MDR market revenues are projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.6 percent between 2017 and 2022, according to industry analyst ReportLinker. Meanwhile, Sophos MTR could help the company capitalize on the rising demand for MDR solutions and accelerate its revenue growth.

Sophos recorded $180.2 million in revenue in the quarter ending June 30, 2019, which represented a 3 percent year-over-year increase. The company also reported $31.8 million in MSP annual recurring revenue during the time frame, an increase of 78 percent year over year at constant currency.
