A distributed denial of service (DDoS) cyberattack knocked numerous Israel government websites offline, though the sites are now back online.

The DDoS attack apparently targeted a communications service provider (CSP). The attack impacted such Israel government sites as the interior, health, justice and welfare ministries, as was that of the Prime Minister's Office, according to Haaretz.com, a newspaper in Israel.

It's unclear whether the DDoS attack ended, or if the CSP took steps to block or sidestep the attack.

The DDoS attack may involve a retaliation against Israel for an alleged failed Mossad operation against Iran, according to The Jerusalem post. Mossad is the national intelligence agency of Israel. Still, that has no been publicly confirmed.

DDoS Cyberattacks Target VoIP Service Providers

The cyberattack surfaces roughly six months after cybercriminals launched several DDoS attacks against voice over IP (VoIP) service providers in September 2021. Victims included Bandwidth, VoIP.msVoip Unlimited, and Voipfone. Some of those attacks also involved ransomware infections.
