11. Crypto Stock Concerns: U.S. securities regulators on Tuesday temporarily suspended trading in the shares of Crypto Company, a small firm that saw its stock rise more than 2,700 percent this month after signing a deal to buy a cryptocurrency data platform, Reuters says.
10. Hacker Pleads Guilty: Zachary Buchta, a hacker who once used a screen name that called the FBI “losers”, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Chicago to running a hacker-for-hire service that shut down company websites and harassed thousands of unsuspecting people around the world, The Chicago Tribune reports.
9. First Responder Security: In a pilot program from the Department of Homeland Security, researchers determined that 32 out of 33 apps for first responders have security and privacy problems, according to CNET.
8. M&A - Distribution: Network Security Group (NSG), the cyber security distribution division of Temprano Techvestors, has acquired Waytek Software, a boutique endpoint security software distribution and value-added resale division of Waytek, a New Jersey-based technology company. Through the Waytek acquisition, NSG gains the Avast Business cloud and endpoint security solutions to its partner offerings, the companies say.
7. UEBA - Talent: PGP Corp., Symantec and RSA Security veteran Tim Matthews has joined Exabeam as chief marketing officer. Exabeam specializes in next-generation security information and event management (SIEM) and user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) solutions.
6. UEBA - Service Launch: LogRhythm has launched LogRhythm UEBA, an analytics product that "enhances the security of environments for customers that wish to augment a non-LogRhythm SIEM or introduce a standalone UEBA product if there is no formal SIEM in place."
5. Partner Program: ThreatModeler has launched a partner program for security professionals and contractors. The program allows security companies and professionals to create threat models and information for their customers under their own branding, ThreatModeler asserts.
4. High Marks: Check Point has earned the leading result in NSS Labs’ first-ever Breach Prevention System (BPS) test. We're not testing experts, so make sure you kick the tires on your own.
3. Business Models: Security7, an MSSP, has moved away from traditional on-premises security monitoring platforms. Instead, the company is leaning heavily on Fortinet's cloud platform. Security7 CTO Brian Thomas described the strategy here.
2. Funding: Ataata, which develops a cyber security training platform designed to reduce human error in the workplace, has raised $3 million in Series A funding.
