A. Today’s MSSP, MDR, XDR and Cybersecurity Market News

1. Cyber Education Awards: EC-Council announced its 2022 Academia award winning instructors of the year. The five honored instructors include a diverse group of teachers from academic institutions across the United States, chosen from more than 500 different institutions that provide cybersecurity education. "Training the next generation of cybersecurity leaders is critical in a nation where as many as half of all cyber jobs are currently unfilled. Nothing is more important to that education than the quality and commitment of our nation's cybersecurity instructors," said Wesley Alvarez, director of Academics at EC-Council.

2. Cybersecurity Deal in the Works: HUB Cyber Security, a developer of confidential computing cybersecurity solutions and services, announced the fulfillment (or waiver) of all conditions for the merger with Mount Rainier.

3. SpiderOak Gains Funding: SpiderOak, a provider of zero-trust cybersecurity solutions for next generation space systems, announced a $16.4M Series C round led by Empyrean Technology Solutions, a space technology platform backed by funds affiliated with Madison Dearborn Partners, a private equity firm based in Chicago. The Series C round included additional investment from Method Capital, and OCA Ventures.

4. United Nations Cyber Crime Treaty in the Works: The United Nations has hit the halfway mark in the negotiating process for its cybercrime treaty, with a fourth negotiating session scheduled for later this month. The Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes aims to finalize its text by early next year. It's likely to cover international cooperation, access to potential digital evidence by law enforcement authorities — including across borders — along with human rights and procedural safeguards. CISA's Year in Review: The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released its 2022 Year in Review highlighting the extensive work of CISA and its partners over the past year to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure. “As one of the youngest agencies in the federal government, we’ve grown significantly each year in capability and capacity, collaborating with our myriad of partners to reduce risk to the cyber and physical infrastructure American’s rely on every hour of every day,” said CISA Director Jen Easterly. “2022 has been an especially productive year for our team and our partnerships and we look forward to continuing this momentum into 2023.”

6. Cloudflare Wins Government Work: Cloudflare has been awarded a $7.2 million contract from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to provide Registry and Authoritative DNS services to the .gov TLD (Top Level Domain).
