Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) News: 20 April 2018

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.

10. Facebook Privacy & PwC: Facebook's privacy practices were cleared by auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP -- at a time when data analytics consultancy Cambridge Analytica gained access to the personal data of millions of Facebook users, Reuters says...

9. Talent: Endpoint security specialist Carbon Black has hired FireEye veteran Jon Kane as EMEA Channel Director. Kane’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Microsoft veteran Victor Baez, as VP of worldwide channels.

8. Momentum - SonicWall: The company's new MSSP partner program has already attracted 200 companies, according to SonicWall Chief Revenue Officer Steve Pataky.

7. VAR to MSSP: Fortinet's unified partner program opens the door for more VARs to pursue managed security services and recurring revenues, company executives tell MSSP Alert. We'll share more thoughts soon.

6. AlienVault Buzz: The company's MSSP initiatives continue to accelerate. The company's RSA Conference booth showed heavy partner activity during our visit. We'll share more thoughts on AlienVault soon.

5. Growth Mode: Less than a year after launching a formalized partner program, Cybereason has been winning some key partner-led deals. We heard about several of those wins during RSA Conference. When time permits, we'll share more thoughts.

4. MDR vs MSSP: eSentire CEO Kerry Bailey and CMO Chris Gesell shared some impressive business growth stats with MSSP Alert earlier this week. Among the company's key focus areas: Investing heavily in MDR (managed detection and response) to differentiate from traditional MSSPs. More details coming soon.

3. SOC as a Service: During an MSSP Alert meeting, Arctic Wolf Networks CEO Brian NeSmith described the company's "horizontally scalable" business model for SOC as a Service. We'll share more thoughts soon.

2. Three Big CISO Challenges: The typical enterprise CISO is facing three major challenges, according to Accenture Global Managed Security Services Lead Harpreet Sidhu. They include attracting and retaining talent resources; managing the right mix of security tools and technologies; and maintaining a proactive posture as the attack landscape continues to shift.
