7-Eleven Denmark Ransomware Cyberattack: Timeline Details and Recovery Updates

7-Eleven stores in Denmark suffered a ransomware cyberattack that shut down the convenience stores' point of sale (POS) retail payment systems, and the company has hired external IT experts "to get to the bottom of the case," the company disclosed on Facebook.

7-Eleven did not say whether the third-party IT experts include MSSPs and/or incident response security companies.

  • August 8, 2022: 7-Eleven Denmark disclosed a hacker attack that knocked out checkout systems and payment systems across nearly 175 stores in the country. Source: BleepingComputer.
  • Aug 10, 2022: 7-Eleven Denmark confirmed the attack involved ransomware, though the hacker group's name and nature of the malware was not disclosed.
