6. Government Cybersecurity: Leveraging a Department of Health and Human Services Cybersecurity Task Force report released June 2, multiple government agencies are assessing what it can do to improve cybersecurity, according to Healthcare IT News. The common problem: The changing threat landscape no longer matches government cybersecurity guidelines.
5. Human Error Caused British Airways Outage: An IT outage on May 27 that caused British Airways (BA) to cancel more than 400 flights and strand 75,000 passengers in one day was because of human error—and a simple one at that, Network World notes. An engineer had disconnected a power supply at a data center near London’s Heathrow airport, and when it was reconnected, it caused a surge of power that resulted in major damage, the airline says.
4. SIEM: EventTracker Security Center 8.3, a SIEM platform upgrade, has arrived with new features that deliver faster threat detection, the company says. The offering is designed to combat ransomware, and polymorphic and mutating malware.
3. SureID Layoffs: A week of upheaval continued Thursday at SureID as the Hillsboro, Oregon, company laid off at least 60 more employees, a day after it cleared out many of its top executives, OregonLive reported. The latest cutbacks suggest the company has eliminated close to half of its workforce this spring.
2. Endpoint Security: Absolute Security has expanded its self-healing endpoint security and compliance solutions for Android devices to provide near real-time visibility into the security posture of mobile devices, data and applications—on and off the corporate network, the company claims. The company supports Windows, Mac, Android and Chromebooks. We'll share more thoughts later today.
