8. Ransomware Report: The ransomware marketplace on the dark web has grown to $6.2 million this year from only $250,000 in 2016, Carbon Black asserts. That's a growth rate of 2,502%. The median price for do-it-yourself (DIY) ransomware kits is only $10.50. Some sellers of ransomware are making more than $100,000 per year simply retailing ransomware - compared to $69,000 for a legitimate software developer, Carbon Black says.
7. Entrepreneur Becomes Hacker?: After selling his business in 2000, David W. Kent allegedly hacked his former business using a range of back doors he'd left open during his tenure. Kent's alleged goal: Lift online member data from his old company and use it for is new company, according to Naked Security...
6. Hackers Target Security Software: North Korean hackers apparently attacked antivirus software maker Hauri Inc. of Seoul. The alleged reason: North Korea used the hack to infiltrate a South Korea network that was accidentally linked to the Internet, The Wall Street Journal reports. The net results: U.S. and South Korea military secrets were stolen, the report says.
5. DevOps Security: CyberArk and Puppet are partnering to provide 'modules' that enable secure DevOps workflows.
4. Partner Program: WhiteHat Security has launched a partner program focused on the company's application security platform.
3. Compliance: ControlScan, which specializes in managed security and compliance solutions, has been approved by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) to extend its Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) services to companies operating in Canada, the company says.
