9. Talent: Zimperium, which develops enterprise mobile threat defense (MTD) solutions, has hired Tim Barker as CFO and Michael Trites as VP of sales, Americas. Barker previously was CFO at RealPage, where he helped grow revenue from $30 million to $400 million, leading the company through a successful IPO in 2010. After RealPage, Barker was CFO for Spredfast, where he more than tripled bookings and completed a successful $50 million capital raise in 2016, Zimperium says. Trites previously held key executive roles at Riverbed, NitroSecurity, Enterasys Networks and Cabletron Systems. Zimperium's customer base grew 400 percent in 2016 vs. 2015, though actual figures weren't disclosed.

8. Partnership: Kryptowire and MobileIron are partnering to integrate MobileIron’s policy and configuration engine with Kryptowire's continuous mobile application vetting and proactive remediation. The net result should be improved mobile security for enterprises, the companies claim.

This Is A Virtual Raid: The U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday it had shut down the dark web marketplace AlphaBay, working with international partners to knock offline the site accused of allowing a global trade in drugs, firearms, computer hacking tools and other illicit goods, according to Reuters.

6. Russia-U.S. Cybersecurity Deja Vu?: Russia says it's in talks with the United States to build a joint cybersecurity unit. The new report comes two weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly mentioned and then backed down from the US-Russia Cybersecurity Unit concept.

5. Hacker Sentenced: A Russian man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday in Georgia federal court for his part in the development and distribution of malicious Citadel malware that infected 11 million computers worldwide and caused $500 million in losses, according to Technology Law360.

DDoS Attack Mitigation Services: Telehouse, a global data center provider, is now offering Verisign's Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Protection Services to  customers through a reseller relationship with Telehouse's parent company KDDI.  On a similar note, TierPoint's new Managed DDoS Defense service leverages Radware’s Attack Mitigation Solution (AMS), ERT Premium service, and extensive support services, the companies say. Not by coincidence, demand for DDoS mitigation services continues to grow rapidly. We'll share more thoughts soon.

3. Managed Firewall Services: Nexogy, an IT service provider in South Florida, has selected Sophos to deliver a managed firewall as a service to SMB customers and channel partners. Nexogy has been expanding from hosted PBXes and cloud communications toward network security. iWe'll share more thoughts soon.

2. Cylance at Black Hat: Cylance is planning several major moves and cybersecurity sessions at next week's Black Hat USA 2017 conference in Las Vegas. Track MSSP Alert's complete Black Hat 2017 coverage here.

1. 'Significant' VMware Vulnerability?: GuardiCore next week plans to unveil a significant vulnerability affecting all recent VMware vSphere versions including 6.5, 6.0, 5.5 and provide mitigation. The unveiling will surface at the Black Hat USA 2017 conference. Um... Is it ethical to keep a vulnerability a secret in the meantime? We'll share more perspectives soon.
