11. Sentenced: Karim Baratov, a Canadian man accused of helping Russian intelligence agents break into email accounts as part of a massive 2014 data breach at Yahoo was sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday and ordered to pay a $250,000 fine, Reuters says.
10. Hack Lawsuit: O'Neill Bragg & Staffin, a law firm in Pennsylvania, has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Philadelphia against Bank of America, claiming the bank was responsible for the damage done after hackers used deceptive emails to dupe a member of the firm into transferring more than a $500,000 to the Bank of China, The Legal Intelligence reports.
9. Funding - Security: Blackpoint, a cybersecurity company offering patented lateral spread detection and network visualization technologies, has raised $6 million in funding.
8. Banking Trojan: The IBM X-Force Research team has discovered MnuBot, a form of malware that has command and control server capabilities, SecurityIntelligence reports.
7. Industrial Control Systems: FoxGuard Solutions has launched its Sentrigard Security Platform, which is designed to protect industrial control systems.
6. Penetration Testing & GDPR: Pcysys, which develops a machine-based penetration testing platform, claims its new version 1.5 release addresses GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requirements.
5. Self-Service Security Testing: DOSarrest Internet Security has introduced a Cyber Attack Readiness Certificate program. The company has a globally distributed botnet and a self-service portal that allows customers to launch large volumetric attacks, plus approximately 25 different sophisticated attacks against their own infrastructure. The offering is merely a managed service extension for DOSarrest's Cyber Attack Preparation Platform (CAPP), the company says.
4. M&A: FireMon, the network security policy management specialist, is acquiring Lumeta Corp., to acquire "cyber situational awareness" expertise. Customers will gain "complete real-time visibility into the extended network and across all connected endpoints," the companies assert.
3. Earnings: VirtualArmour International, a cybersecurity managed services provider, says Q1 revenues were $3.3 million. Managed and professional services grew nearly 150 percent to $1.1 million.
2. Entry-level Services: Fortinet has added metered, consumption-based licensing and an entry-level tier to its MSSP program to make it easier for product-centric VARs to establish managed security services, CRN Australia notes.
1. Global Expansion: Proficio, a Top 100 MSSP, has extended its cybersecurity, managed detection and response (MDR) services into Melbourne, Australia.
