Every MSP is involved in cybersecurity or should be involved in cybersecurity. But the world of managed services involves many other technologies, tools and trends as well. With that in mind each week MSSP Alert brings you the top headlines from our affiliate site ChannelE2E which focuses on MSP tools, M&A, AI, and other topics of importance to service providers.

This week we bring new news of Jampf launching its new partner program, reaching partners in over 70 countries.

We also hear from Canalys's Jay McBain, who noted on LinkedIn that while it's been a disappointing, roller-coaster of a week in the U.S. economy, there's still reason for optimism in the channel.

And finally, Mike Mullane at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) who tells us that adherence to standards such as those from the IEC and ISO could have prevented the CrowdStrike incident.

Jamf Launches New Partner Program for Scale, Cybersecurity

Apple management and security solutions firm Jamf is launching a global partner program this week to scale its business reach and focus on cybersecurity.

The Jamf Global Partner Program now reaches partners in over 70 countries worldwide, said Liz Benz, chief sales officer, Jamf, and the goal is to increase the business's scale and reach through the channel.

"We see a great opportunity with the reseller channel, and with MSPs, too, to help us on our scaling mission," Benz told ChannelE2E. "We're focused on expanding our partner base and actively recruiting new partners to join the program. Our goal is to lean into the channel so that we can reach more customers. We go to market in many different ways; through resellers, managed service providers, carriers, etc. And our aim really is to incorporate all of those go-to-market programs to increase our value proposition for partners and end-users.”

Despite Economic Challenges, Channel Optimism (and Profitability) Grows

Canalys's Jay McBain noted on LinkedIn that while it's been a disappointing, roller-coaster of a week in the U.S. economy, he specifically cited the stock market plunge, disappointing U.S. unemployment numbers and underwhelming tech earnings and massive layoffs from the likes of Intel and Dell -- there's still reason for optimism in the channel.

"Tech spending has actually been solid given these challenges and looks to be for (at least) the next two quarters. There was a lot to like in the past quarter: 15 out of 18 companies in the Canalys Tech Titans grew in Q2 (including all of the five largest companies, a first since 2022). The group outpaced the 14-year growth average (even when excluding NVIDIA's contribution). [And] income growth continued to outpace revenue growth, showing continued fiscal conservatism," McBain noted in his post.

The market is not without its challenges and concerns, but overall, there are still plenty of signs of healthy spending.

Could ISO Standards Prevent the Next Global IT Outage?

We know a lot about the who, what, when, where and why of the recent global outage caused by CrowdStrike’s software update. But the question that's still being asked is, "How can we prevent this from happening again?"

In a recent blog post, Mike Mullane at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), an international not-for-profit standards and assessment organization, said that adherence to standards such as those from the IEC and ISO could have prevented the CrowdStrike incident.

"IEC and ISO international standards reflect the wisdom of a broad and diverse range of experts from every corner of the world. They codify the global best practices that could have helped prevent the recent IT outage that is still affecting hospitals, airports, banks and other businesses worldwide. Analysts blame the absence of three safeguards for exacerbating the impact of the faulty software: Rigorous testing, enhanced monitoring and effective communication. IEC and ISO [cybersecurity] standards address all three," Mullane said in the post.

Mullane is specifically talking about the best practices outlined in IEC/ISO 27002, which provides comprehensive guidelines for information security controls, including those related to change management and software updates. Another standard, ISO/IEC 27017, builds on ISO/IEC 27002 to provide additional security guidance for the cloud, Mullane said.
